Here’s an interesting article I found on cat toilet training which is really useful if you wake up in the morning and clean up under the bed because your cat did something bad under it.

First, you must train your cat to use a home-made cardboard litter box, if you have not already done so. (If your box does not have a one-piece bottom, add a cardboard that fits inside, so you have a false bottom that is smooth and strong. This way the box will not become soggy and fall out at the bottom. The grocery store will have extra flat cardboards which you can cut down to fit exactly inside your box.)

Be sure to use torn up newspaper, not kitty litter. Stop using kitty litter. (When the time comes you cannot put sand in a toilet.)

Once your cat is trained to use a cardboard box, start moving the box around the room, towards the bathroom. If the box is in a corner, move it a few feet from the corner, but not very noticeably. If you move it too far, he may go to the bathroom in the original corner. Do it gradually. You’ve got to get him thinking. Then he will gradually follow the box as you move it to the bathroom. (Important: if you already have it there, move it out of the bathroom, around, and then back. He has to learn to follow it. If it is too close to the toilet, to begin with, he will not follow it up onto the toilet seat when you move it there.) A cat will look for his box. He smells it.

Now, as you move the box, also start cutting the brim of the box down, so the sides get lower. Do this gradually.

Finally, you reach the bathroom and, eventually, the toilet itself. Then, one day, prepare to put the box on top of the toilet. At each corner of the box, cut a little slash. You can run string around the box, through these slashes, and tie the box down to the toilet so it will not fall off. Your cat will see it there and jump up to the box, which is now sitting on top of the toilet (with the sides cut down to only an inch or so.)

Don’t bug the cat now, don’t rush him, because you might throw him off. Just let him relax and go there for awhile-maybe a week or two. Meanwhile, put less and less newspaper inside the box.

One day, cut a small hole in the very center of his box, less than an apple-about the size of a plum-and leave some paper in the box around the hole. Right away he will start aiming for the hole and possibly even try to make it bigger. Leave the paper for awhile to absorb the waste. When he jumps up he will not be afraid of the hole because he expects it. At this point you will realize that you have won. The most difficult part is over.

From now on, it is just a matter of time. In fact, once when I was cleaning the box and had removed it from the toilet, my cat jumped up anyway and almost fell in. To avoid this, have a temporary flat cardboard ready with a little hole, and slide it under the toilet lid so he can use it while you are cleaning, in case he wants to come and go, and so he will not fall in and be scared off completely. You might add some newspaper up there too, while you are cleaning, in case your cat is not as smart as Nightlife was.

Now cut the box down completely until there is no brim left. Put the flat cardboard, which is left, under the lid of the toilet seat, and pray. Leave a little newspaper, still. He will rake it into the hole anyway, after he goes to the bathroom. Eventually, you can simply get rid of the cardboard altogether. You will see when he has got his balance properly.

Don’t be surprised if you hear the toilet flush in the middle of the night. A cat can learn how to do it, spurred on by his instinct to cover up. His main thing is to cover up. If he hits the flush knob accidentally and sees that it cleans the bowl inside, he may remember and do it intentionally.

Also, be sure to turn the toilet paper roll around so that it won’t roll down easily if the cat paws it. The cat is apt to roll it into the toilet, again with the intention of covering up- the way he would if there were still kitty litter.

It took me about three or four weeks to toilet train my cat, Nightlife. Most of the time is spent moving the box very gradually to the bathroom. Do it very slowly and don’t confuse him. And, remember, once the box is on the toilet, leave it a week or even two. The main thing to remember is not to rush or confuse him.

Healthy new born kitten is satisfied with everything for the first three weeks and the majority of time he sleeps and wakes up only to eat. About eight hours during a day the kitten spends on eating and doesn‘t stop sucking mother’s milk for 45 minutes. The most of kittens adapt to one of the nips and find it by its smell. If one of the nips doesn’t attract the kittens it stops lactation.

Perfect mother-cat defends the nest instinctively and keeps kittens in clean conditions. She stimulates the reflex of urination and defecation by licking of the kitten’s tummy and rectum.

The kittens are born blind (with close eyes) and begin to open them on the eighth day and open them by the fourteenth day.

Shorthair race cats open their eyes earlier than longhair cats. All kittens are born with blue eyes, they begin to pigment after 3 weeks age and finish the pigmentation up to 9-12 weeks age.

New born kittens have their ears firmly closed, they are opened on the 5-8 day and risen up to 3 weeks age. The kitten’s sex can be identified after his birth, though it is easier to do it in junior age.

At the age of 25 days the kittens are guided by eyesight and hearing. Usually they rise up at the age of 18 days and start to go by the 21 day. At this time they begin to eat themselves from the saucer. At the age of four weeks they begin to urinate and defecate themselves. They try to do it on the paper not in the nest.

Try to disturb the kittens less. At least when they are some weeks old and they begin to crawl. Moreover the majority of cats are nervous when their kittens are taken away. They say it is bad for the kitten and it affects his socialization and prevents from communicating with mother and other kittens and getting along well with them. Intermediate relations are necessary for the kitten’s developing, for him to know that he is a cat. Lacking of early socialization the kitten can show aggression, fear, and untidiness during the eating and other unwilling behavior. After 6 weeks age the kitten begins to communicate with people and faces with new unpredictable situations so necessary for his adaptation in the surrounding world and for he to become a true pet.

Is through her cat

So, you’re dating a gal who shares her residence with a cat. If your relationship is going to get anywhere, I encourage you to follow each of these suggestions:

Never, ever mention that you can (or can’t) smell the litter box.

f the kitten wants to spend an hour untying your shoelace, let him. When he gets it untied, retie it so he can continue playing.

Never make a big show of brushing the cat fur from your slacks.

Get in the habit of putting a couple of sardines in your pocket. Slip them to the cat when she isn’t watching. (Note: you may have to do this through the entire dating period, because the cat willclear iconlikely go for your pocket each time you visit.)

Don’t push the cat off the sofa if he’s inserted himself between the two of you. If he’s still sitting between the two of you when you get amorous, reassure him (mental telepathy is fine) that you have no harmful intentions against his companion, and move him gently to your lap. Try to keep one hand stroking the cat at all times in this situation.

If you’re spending the night, do yourself a favor and don’t even TRY to sleep in the cat’s favorite spot on the bed.

When you phone her, ask about her cat.

When she leaves the room to fix cocktails or check on dinner, ask her if she’s got a cat toy handy so you can keep the cat entertained.

If you’re taking her out to dinner, ask her if it’s okay to bring home a “cat bag” of leftovers for the cat.

And BAM … you’ve got yourself a girlfriend

Cats are very independent animals. They do not require as much attention as some other animals, but taking care of a cat does require some work. Cats depend on you for food, water, companionship, shelter and much more. We have developed a Top Ten List of cat care. Follow the list for a happy healthy relationship for many years.

Make sure your cat has a Collar and ID Tag with your contact information. No matter how careful you are, your cat can always slip away. If a cat has a collar, most people assume it has an owner, and an ID Tag assures that they can contact you.

Keep your cat inside. It’s a rough world out there! Keeping your cat indoor keeps your cat safer, is better for you and your neighbors as well.

Follow your Local Laws. Follow all registration and licensing laws in your area, and keep all your paperwork up to date.

Spay or Neuter Your Cat. There are millions of unwanted animals in shelters. Help control the pet population.

Visit the Vet Regularly. Cats can get sick too. Get regular checkups for your cat and your yearly vaccinations.

Train Your Cat. Most people think cats cannot be trained. Teaching them not to jump on countertops or scratching your furniture is actually very simple with a little patience and understanding.

Feed your cat a healthy diet. Make sure to feed your cat a nutritionally balanced diet, and provide access to fresh clean water daily.

Play with your cat. Make time each and every day to play with your cat. Interaction strengthens your bond and provides mental stimulation as well as exercise.

Groom your Cat often. Even if your cat has short hair, grooming keeps their coat healthy and shiny. It also removes loose hair which can lead to hair balls when ingested.

Love your Cat. Be loving and patient with your cat. Any Behavior issues can easily be solved. Having a cat can be very enjoyable and rewarding.
